PlanIn BI Discussions is an interactive Power BI custom visual designed to enhance collaboration within planning and forecasting reports. Integrated with the PlanIn BI Matrix, this visual enables users to create, manage, and track discussions directly on specific data points, facilitating real-time collaboration and decision-making. Discussions can be initiated at any level, including individual cells, totals, or aggregated values, ensuring contextualized communication within the Power BI environment.
With PlanIn BI Discussions, users can add messages, assign discussions to specific individuals, tag colleagues, update discussion statuses, and attach images or details for enhanced clarity. When a user is tagged or assigned to a discussion, the system automatically sends an email notification to inform them of their involvement. The visual also captures the report’s filter state at the moment a discussion is created, ensuring that comments appear only when the same filter context is applied.
Users can easily navigate discussions from the main visual interface, filter them based on the creator, assigned user, status, or specific keywords, and quickly locate relevant conversations. The "Filter Page" feature allows users to select a discussion, apply its original filter state to the report, and instantly highlight the corresponding data point within the matrix visual.
Fully supported in Power BI Service, this visual does not function on Power BI Desktop. The PlanIn BI Discussions visual requires an additional Power BI visuals, PlanIn BI Matrix and PlanIn BI - Data Refresh Service (available on AppSource), to enable real-time data refresh capabilities. A backend write-back web API (advised to be hosted on Azure Web Apps) is also required to enable write-back functionality. Supported databases include Microsoft SQL (on-premises/cloud), Azure SQL, and more. If you need compatibility with a specific database, please contact us with your requirements.
